Kings hope injured Bose can turn up the volume

Post on: 2011-11-02 By: admin

Kings star Anatoly Bose is a strong chance of making his comeback for Friday night's crucial National Basketball Leagueclash against Melbourne at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. It was initially feared Bose, who was sorely missed during the Kings' 17-point away loss to the Breakers on Friday, could be out for another week.

Bose suffered a foot injury just as he began finding his touch, including a game-winning 24-point haul against Wollongong. However, Kings coach Ian Robilliard is hopeful the 22-year-old will be on deck to take on the Patrick Mills-led Tigers.

''I'll talk to our doctor on Monday because that's a week in the boot - there might be a chance, yes,'' Robilliard said yesterday. ''He was coming off such a high after Wollongong, so he would have been riding on an emotional wave, but it wasn't to be.''

The Kings' record stands at 2-3 after their second loss to the Breakers this season. Robilliard conceded they had lost the momentum built from consecutive wins. ''If I was to assess us in terms of the percentage we can get to, we're running at about half cylinders,'' Robilliard said. ''We can score quickly when the guys are in tune and when we're moving the ball well - that's a high-energy game but for some reason we don't have any consistency. We're either very high or very low and we're plateauing in our performance and we need to learn from that.''

Meanwhile, Townsville's Elvin Mims led the way with 17 points as the Crocs scored a 78-70 win over Gold Coast last night. The win lifted Townsville to a 2-2 season record. Blaze guard James Harvey scored 17 points in a losing effort.
Hopes that an NBA All-Star tour will reach Australia are fading. The first stop on the six-game tour, in Puerto Rico, has been postponed indefinitely. It was hoped Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant will reach our shores while the NBA lockout continues. However, there are now concerns games in Melbourne on November 8 and 9 will not take place. The lockout won't be overanytime soon -November has been written off and the latest talks between the players and club owners again broke down. There is now no chance of the clubs completing their usual 82-game season. ''In light of the breakdown of talks, there will not be a full NBA season under any circumstances,'' NBA boss David Stern said.
Melbourne court-side announcer Wayne Peterson was in an exchange with Breakers centre Gary Wilkinson last week and both teams have filed complaints. Peterson has a large birthmark on his face and it is alleged Wilkinson referred to it during a fiery affair. The NBL is in the midst of investigating the incident.
